A poetic harmony of texture and translucence, Pakhibasanta blends the earthy richness of Matka silk with the ethereal grace of muslin. The body of the saree is woven in soft, textured matka silk, offering comfort and structure, while the transparent muslin pallu flows like a quiet breeze, adorned with delicate multicolored birds and florals. The joyful handwoven motifs speak of spring mornings, rustling leaves, and nature’s song in silk.

Why its special:

This saree combines two of Bengal's finest silks - the pallu in sheer Muslin and the body is in coarse but soft textured matka silk.

  • Fabric: Handwoven matka silk in the bodyand sheer muslin in the pallu
  • Feel/texture: Matka has a slightly coarse, raw silk like texture and drapes easily
  • Color: White with multicolored motifs
  • Length: Approx. 6.4m (including blouse piece)
  • Blouse design: Plain white with tulip butis on the border
  • Width: 1.2m
  • Weight: ~490g
  • Tassels: Yes
  • Falls & Pico: No
  • Care: Dry clean only

Styling Tips:

  • Pair it with a sleeveless or halter blouse in a bright contrasting hue—think turquoise, coral, or mustard—for a playful summer brunch look

  • Add silver or terracotta jewellery with floral or bird motifs to echo the pallu design

  • For a minimalist yet elegant touch, style it with a white linen blouse and braided bun adorned with fresh flowers

Why is Matka Silk a conscious and cruelty-free choice ?

Matka silk is made from pierced or already-emerged cocoons (where the moth has flown out), which means the silk thread is shorter and has a more textured, matte finish. This method makes Matka silk a more ethical and cruelty-free alternative to traditional mulberry silk, where the worm is typically boiled inside the cocoon to extract long, continuous threads.

Because of this, Matka silk is often classified as a peace silk or Ahimsa silk variant, though the term “Ahimsa silk” is usually more strictly reserved for silk where no harm at all comes to the worm, including its natural lifecycle.
