ABOUT THE BRAND

WHY 'RED RIVER' ?
Inspired by the handloom traditions of Eastern India and the river that shaped my childhood, I created Red River Creations. Named after the Brahmaputra—the Red River that flows with red silt and along whose banks I grew up (I even nicknamed my son Luit which is what the river is fondly called in Assam)—this brand is my way of sharing our timeless handloom magic with the world.

HOW IT ALL STARTED
When I hit puberty, my grandmother (Aita) gave me a pink mekhla chador—with little green bootis—that she wove herself. Back then, weaving was just a regular part of Aita’s life, and I never thought much of it.

Fast forward 25 years to my life in Singapore, where I discovered how much people adore Assamese sarees. Every time I visited Guwahati, I’d bring back beautiful handloom weaves for my friends. That’s when it hit me: even though people appreciate our textiles, there was no popular portal for people to shop sarees from my home state, and there was precious little awareness about our textile traditions.

While researching Assam's handloom textiles, I stumbled upon other amazing textiles from Eastern India—like Manipur’s Moirangphee, Bihar’s Ghicha silks, and Bengal’s matka and katan. I also learnt about at our rich weaving traditions were slowly getting overshadowed by cheaper, mass-produced fabrics—and even our indigenous silks like muga and tussar were in danger because of environmental changes.

Though Eastern India has such a rich tradition of handloom weaving, I couldn’t find one trustworthy e-commerce store/platform to celebrate them all. That is how the idea of Red River Creations was born - a one stop shop for curating the handloom textiles from Eastern India.

OUR MISSION
We are on a mission to take the timeless artistry of Eastern India's handloom sarees to a global audience, one thread at a time. We honor the weavers, celebrate cultural storytelling, and curate pieces that feel beautiful on every body. By celebrating sustainable, locally made, and handwoven products, we aim to connect discerning women with sarees that resonate with their values and aesthetic sensibilities.

OUR VISION
Our vision is to take the weaving traditions of Eastern India to the world, not as relics of the past but as living, breathing art in everyday wardrobes. By doing so, we want to support the weaving traditions that are under threat due to declining artisanal interest, competition from power looms and environmental changes. We envision a world where every saree tells a story, every artisan is valued, and every woman feels seen in what she wears.
