  • This saree also makes a wonderful drape for intimate events like a book launch, art exhibit, or a slow Sunday celebration.

Why is Matka Silk called cruelty-free silk?

Matka silk is made from pierced or already-emerged cocoons (where the moth has flown out), which means the silk thread is shorter and has a more textured, matte finish. This method makes Matka silk a more ethical and cruelty-free alternative to traditional mulberry silk, where the worm is typically boiled inside the cocoon to extract long, continuous threads.

Because of this, Matka silk is often classified as a peace silk or Ahimsa silk variant, though the term “Ahimsa silk” is usually more strictly reserved for silk where no harm at all comes to the worm, including its natural lifecycle.
